"Hi Rachel, Zac and Bianca have both been singing various Little Feet music songs on and off all day..Zac is particularly stoked with Andy Pandy...even told his Dad about it tonight! He keeps on saying Andy Pandy Sugar and Candy, then bursts out laughing, like it’s the funniest thing he’s ever heard. Bianca wiggling away to the melon song (that right now has slipped right out of my head!)" -- Di x
About Little Feet Music Classes
6-12 months – 30 minute classes
Children and adults participate in songs, dances and playing percussion instruments. Fun, colourful puppets and simple instruments are used and there are lots of finger and lap plays. These sessions are great for child/parent bonding and for giving parents and carers musical ideas to use at home.

1-2 years – 30 minute classes
Listening skills are enhanced - children start to learn how to identify changes in music (e.g., start and stop) and musical elements such as dynamics (loud and quiet), tempo (fast and slow) and timbre (characteristics of sounds). There’s lots of singing, dancing, clapping and jumping!

2-3 years – 40 minute classes
There’s dancing, jumping and wriggling, playing musical games, learning about taking it in turns, meeting some interesting and friendly puppets, learning colours and counting through music and generally having a great fun time. Listening and social skills are developed and nurtured.

3-4 years – 40 minute classes
Children develop conscious learning of beat, tempo, dynamics and pitch through stimulating games, directed movement, songs and rhymes. Musical elements are expanded on and the focus is on having fun while gaining an understanding of music.

4-5 years – 40 minute classes
Children learn some of the symbols which represent musical sounds and rests and learn how to play simple songs/melodies on the chime bars. Simple notation and the concept of reading from left to right are built upon. There’s lots of structured musical game playing and solo singing opportunities in a relaxed and friendly environment. Children who participate in Little Feet Music’s 4-5 year old program can confidently move onto learning a musical instrument.

The Fun and Valuable 3-4 year-old Program

The 3-4 year old program provides solid foundations for any child who would like to go on to learn a musical instrument. There are lots of opportunities for solo singing and, like the 2-3 year old classes, there is lots of moving to music, colourful puppets, playing percussion instruments and having fun. The music is all live – it’s not just prancing around to CDs, and who doesn’t love live music!? Children learn through having fun, so the Little Feet Music program is fun, fun, fun. They’ll learn without even knowing it!

In this program children develop conscious learning of reading and playing music, beat, tempo, dynamics and pitch through inspiring games, directed movement, songs and rhymes. Musical elements are expanded on and the focus remains on having fun while gaining an understanding of music in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The term ‘beat’ is introduced, and keeping a steady beat becomes a conscious activity while patting knees, stamping feet, clapping hands, etc. Children learn to keep a steady beat while pointing on a page of pictures two rows by four columns - the foundation of reading music - which encourages reading from the left to right of a page and top to bottom - the foundation of reading.

Children begin to aurally recognise high and low notes (intervals an octave apart) and most children are able to distinguish the difference by the end of the 3-4 year old program.

Musical terms such as piano (quiet), forte (loud), lento (very slow) and presto (very fast) are introduced and children only take a short time to become very confident in knowing the difference. Children also become more confident at performing solo and many love to come to the front of the class to sing alone or do an activity.

Learning More in the 4-5 year-old Program

The 4-5 year old program provides solid foundations for any child who would like to go on to learn a musical instrument, and many do with confidence. There’s lots of opportunities for solo singing and like the 3-4 year old classes, there is loads of moving to music, colourful puppets, playing percussion instruments and having fun. The music is all live – it’s not just prancing around to CDs, and who doesn’t love live music!? Children learn through having fun, so the Little Feet Music program is fun, fun, fun. They’ll learn without even knowing it!

In this program children learn symbols representing rhythms (crochet - taa, quavers - titi and crochet rest - saa) and learn how to play simple songs and melodies on the chime bars. Rhythmic notation and the concept of reading from left to right are built upon. Conscious learning of beat, tempo, dynamics and pitch through stimulating games, directed movement, songs and rhymes is reinforced and musical elements are expanded on - the focus being on having fun while gaining an understanding of music in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Recognition between high a low notes (intervals of an octave, a perfect 5th and a perfect 4th) is learnt and most children can easily identify the difference by the end of the year.

Musical terms such as piano (quiet), forte (loud), lento (very slow) and presto (very fast) are reinforced and children start to be able to play one tempo while playing either loudly or quietly.

The term ‘beat’, introduced in the 3-4 year old program, is used throughout the year and children learn to keep a steady beat while pointing on a page of 4 rows by 4 columns - the foundation of reading music - and encouraging reading from the left to right of a page and top to bottom - the foundation of reading. Towards the end of the 4-5 year old program many children are able to keep a steady beat with their feet, while clapping a simple rhythm and can often do so while singing the song in their head.
